Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Georgia Medical Cannabis Society (GMCS) is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. We believe that every patient, caregiver, and advocate deserves equal access to the information and resources we provide. We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our digital content and to meet or exceed the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Accessibility Standards

Our website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more user-friendly for everyone.

Perceivable

Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive. We provide text alternatives for non-text content, captions for multimedia, and ensure content can be presented in different ways without losing meaning.

Operable

User interface components and navigation must be operable. All functionality is available from a keyboard, users have enough time to read and use content, and we avoid content that could cause seizures or physical reactions.

Understandable

Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable. Text is readable and understandable, content appears and operates in predictable ways, and we help users avoid and correct mistakes.

Robust

Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies. We use valid, well-structured HTML and follow best practices for compatibility with screen readers and other assistive tools.

Measures We Have Taken

  • Included skip-to-content links so keyboard users can bypass repetitive navigation.
  • Provided descriptive alt text for all meaningful images throughout the site.
  • Ensured all interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard navigation.
  • Used semantic HTML elements (nav, main, section, article, heading hierarchy) to support screen readers.
  • Applied visible focus indicators on all interactive elements for keyboard and switch-access users.
  • Maintained color contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Associated all form inputs with descriptive labels and provided clear error messages.
  • Added ARIA labels and roles to complex interactive components such as navigation menus and modal dialogs.
  • Ensured the site is responsive and usable across a range of devices and screen sizes.
  • Declared the page language in HTML to support screen reader pronunciation.

Known Limitations

While we strive to ensure the highest level of accessibility, some content may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working to address the following known limitations:

  • Some older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these files or provide accessible alternatives.
  • Embedded third-party content (such as video players and social media widgets) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We are working with vendors to improve this.
  • Some legacy pages may have incomplete heading structures. We are auditing and correcting these on an ongoing basis.
