Step-by-Step Registration Guide

   Confirm You Have a Qualifying Condition

   Georgia's medical cannabis program covers 17+ qualifying conditions including cancer, PTSD, Parkinson's disease, MS, Crohn's disease, ALS, seizure disorders, sickle cell disease, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, intractable pain, and others. SB 220 expanded this list further. Your diagnosis must be confirmed by a Georgia-licensed physician.

   Find a Certifying Physician

   Not all Georgia physicians participate in the registry certification process. You need a Georgia-licensed physician who is registered with the Georgia Composite Medical Board to certify patients.    Schedule Your Physician Appointment

   Book an appointment with your chosen certifying physician. Bring documentation of your diagnosis — medical records, prior test results, or specialist notes. The physician will evaluate your condition and, if appropriate, certify you through the Georgia Department of Public Health's online portal. Telehealth appointments are available through many providers.

   Physician Submits Your Certification

   Once your physician certifies your qualifying condition, they submit your registration electronically through the Georgia DPH portal. You do not submit this yourself — your physician handles this step. You will receive a notification from the Georgia Department of Public Health with instructions to complete your registration and pay the fee.

5. 05

   Pay the Registration Fee

   After your physician submits your certification, you will be directed to pay the state registration fee through the Georgia Department of Public Health. Fee amounts are set by the state and subject to change — verify the current fee at dph.georgia.gov. Fee waivers may be available for patients who qualify based on financial hardship.

   Receive Your Registry Card

   After payment is processed, the Georgia Department of Public Health will issue your Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry card. Under SB 220, your card is valid for 5 years. You will also receive an electronic version of your card, which is now legally accepted at licensed dispensaries. Keep your card — physical or digital — with you whenever you purchase or possess medical cannabis products.

Under SB 220, registry cards are now valid for 5 years (previously 2 years). You must renew before your card expires. The renewal process follows the same steps as initial registration — your certifying physician must re-certify your qualifying condition through the Georgia DPH portal, and you will pay the renewal fee. GMCS recommends beginning the renewal process at least 60 days before your card expires to avoid any gap in access.

A designated caregiver may be registered to purchase and possess medical cannabis on behalf of a qualifying patient. Caregivers must be designated by the patient and registered through the Georgia Department of Public Health. Caregiver cards are issued separately from patient cards.
