Compassion in Action

Georgia's flagship patient and caregiver education series — helping registered patients and the people who support them understand the medical cannabis program, know their rights, and connect with community.

Volunteers providing community outreach and support services
Compassion in Action brings patient education and support directly into Georgia communities

About This Program

Compassion in Action is GMCS's core patient-facing education program. Delivered in community settings, healthcare facilities, and online, it provides accessible, accurate, and nonpartisan information about Georgia's medical cannabis program. Sessions are designed for patients at every stage — from those just learning about the registry to long-time cardholders navigating new developments like SB 220.

What You Will Learn

  • How the Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry Works

Step-by-step guidance on qualifying conditions, finding a certifying physician, completing the registration process, and renewing your card.

  • Your Legal Rights as a Patient

What you are legally permitted to possess and purchase, how to interact with law enforcement, and what protections exist — and do not exist — under Georgia law.

  • Safe and Effective Use

Evidence-based guidance on dosing, product types, delivery methods, drug interactions, and how to communicate with your healthcare team about medical cannabis.

  • SB 220 and Recent Law Changes

Plain-language explanation of what changed under SB 220 (signed May 12, 2026), including expanded qualifying conditions, digital card acceptance, extended card validity, and new product forms.

  • Caregiver Roles and Responsibilities

How designated caregivers can support patients, what the registry requires of caregivers, and how to purchase and possess products on a patient's behalf.

  • Community Resources and Support

Connecting patients and caregivers with GMCS programs, peer support networks, provider directories, and advocacy opportunities.
