Qualifying Conditions
Georgia law specifies which diagnosed conditions make a patient eligible to register for the Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry. Review the full list below to see if your condition qualifies.
SB 220, signed into law on May 12, 2026, added new qualifying conditions and extended registry card validity to 5 years. If your condition was recently added, speak with a certifying physician to begin the registration process.
To be eligible for the Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry, you must have a diagnosis of one or more of the conditions listed below, confirmed by a Georgia-licensed physician who is registered with the Georgia Composite Medical Board to certify patients. SB 220 (signed May 12, 2026) expanded the list of qualifying conditions.
Qualifying Conditions (17)
Cancer
Any type of cancer, including end-stage cancer or cancer treatment causing chronic pain, nausea, or weight loss.
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)
Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Seizure Disorders
Includes epilepsy and other conditions characterized by recurrent seizures.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
A disease in which the immune system attacks the protective sheath covering nerve fibers.
Crohn's Disease
A type of inflammatory bowel disease causing inflammation of the digestive tract.
Mitochondrial Disease
A group of disorders caused by dysfunctional mitochondria, the organelles that generate energy for the body.
Parkinson's Disease
A progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement, often including tremors.
Sickle Cell Disease
An inherited red blood cell disorder in which there are not enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body.
Tourette's Syndrome
A nervous system disorder involving repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that are difficult to control.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
A developmental disability caused by differences in the brain, affecting communication, behavior, and social interaction.
Epidermolysis Bullosa
A rare connective tissue disorder causing the skin to blister easily from minor friction or injury.
Alzheimer's Disease
A progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die, affecting memory and cognitive function.
AIDS
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, the most severe phase of HIV infection.
Peripheral Neuropathy
A result of damage to the nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord, causing weakness, numbness, and pain.
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event, causing flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety.
Intractable Pain
Pain that is not curable or relievable through ordinary medical or surgical means.
Patient in Hospice Care
Patients enrolled in a licensed hospice program providing end-of-life care.
What If My Condition Is Not Listed?
If your condition does not appear on the qualifying list, you are not currently eligible for the Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry.
